Organic Chemistry - Molecules and Mechanisms
Organic Chemistry - Molecules and Mechanisms'Organic Chemistry John M. Curry PDF', 'John M. Curry'John M. Curry's Organic Chemistry PDF' are the keywords you will find in the title of this book. The creator of this book is a long time former graduate student of Chemistry at UCLA, John M Curry. He has graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Chemistry in 1974.He then went on to get his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Washington, and spent many years studying organic and inorganic compounds, including the compounds and animal life on earth. He also went on to teach Chemistry, and did a couple of times at Stanford, and has several times been named one of the top ten chemists in the world. After teaching Chemistry at several universities he decided to go on to write his own book, which was a natural for him.The title of the book is 'Organic Chemistry: Molecules and Mechanisms'. This book is designed to give an introduction to all of the different types of compounds that are involved in organic chemistry. There are many different methods in organic chemistry, and the various chemicals involved in chemical reactions are what make the book so important.First, there is the chemical bonding, which is made up of chemical reactions that occur between two different types of molecules that have two different types of bond. In organic chemistry, these chemical bonds are made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorous. Then there is another form of chemical bonding, where there is an organic compound that has a certain carbon-based group attached to it, with the presence of oxygen or nitrogen. As you can see, there are many different types of bonds in organic chemistry, and the ability to understand how these bonds work is an important part of the information in the book. Then there is the introduction to chemistry, which contains information about different elements that are used in organic chemistry. The book is divided into four sections, each co vering a different area of organic chemistry. In the first section of the book, the title 'An Introduction to Organized Organic Chemistry' begins the book. The title of this section is correct because there are four different methods of organic chemistry. These methods are the ones that are used most often in organic chemistry courses, and is the reason for this title being used. The second section is titled 'Method 1' which covers a lot of the popular types of reactions that can be done in organic chemistry. In this section there are four different methods of organic chemistry, and these are the acetylation, the alkylation, the reduction, and the cleavage. The third section is entitled 'An Introduction to Organized Organic Chemistry II', and here the title 'Method 3' comes into play. The method in this section is the macromolecular chemistry method, and this is the type of reaction that most people are familiar with in organic chemistry. The fourth section of the book is the last sect ion in the book, and this covers some of the simpler forms of organic chemistry. In this section, 'An Introduction to Organized Organic Chemistry III', the title of the section is used, and it covers a variety of different methods and compounds that are commonly used in organic chemistry. The fifth section is called 'Introduction to Organized Organic Chemistry IV', and this part of the book covers some of the lesser known methods of organic chemistry. The last section of the book is called 'Introduction to Organized Organic Chemistry V' and this is a final section in the book.

Getting Started on Writing Personal Statements
Getting Started on Writing Personal Statements Getting Started on Writing Personal StatementsThis handout is a starting point, a guide, and a reminder that there is no one-size-fits all statement. You are the only essential ingredient. With that, here are some areas for consideration when writing a personal statement.WHERE DO I START?Read and answer the questions. What is the prompt really asking you to do? The school/scholarship chose those questions for specific reasons. Consider what those might be and how you and your experiences reflect the essential qualities they are seeking. Even if you are applying for multiple schools, it is important not to write one generic statement and then simply adjust it for the different applications. It is easy for readers to tell when a statement is generic and the writer didnât take the time to thoughtfully answer the questions being asked.Pretend to be your audience. Imagine what it is like to sit on a committee of people who read hundreds, maybe thousands of personal statements. What are you tired of reading? What would really grab your attention? This is not a suggestion that you need to lie and just write what you think your readers want. Absolutely not. This is about finding an angle and figuring out how you and your experiences can be expressed in a way that is not repetitious of what everyone else has already written.Research the specific school or scholarship for which you are applying. What are their values? Do they have a mission statement? What do they hope to get out of admitting you to their school or accepting you for their scholarship? Knowing the answers to these and any other questions about the school can help you add a personal touch to your statement. Letâs say the school or scholarship particularly values community service. In that case, make sure to include and emphasize your own commitment to service in your statement. If you donât have specific community service hours, look for it in other areas of your life. How else do you better your com munity and give back? Itâs important here to recognize that you are still answering the questions specifically asked of you. Researching the school or scholarship is a tool that allows you to include and emphasize certain parts about yourself that align with what the readers are looking for within the body of your answers to their specific questions.Always be asking yourself: why you? Why should the readers choose you? What makes you the best candidate? What do you have that sets you apart? Make sure your readers know why you are an excellent candidate. This is not the kind of writing where you should hedge commentary about yourself (i.e. Iâm kind of/sort of/sometimesâ¦).WHAT DO I SAY?Tell a story. Show your readers who you are instead of listing things about yourself (Iâm intelligent, determined, and detail-oriented). One of the best ways to do this is by telling a story. However, donât just tell any story that is interesting to hook the reader. Make sure you can relate th e story to the question being asked and the parts of yourself you want to emphasize.Pick the details you include in the story. Make every detail matter. Donât include extraneous details, especially if youâre limited to a specific word count. There is a difference between including extraneous details and setting the scene. You can include details that make the story more vivid, but if you go off on tangents that arenât specifically related to the point youâre trying to make, it can make your writing seem sloppy.Tie the details together. This is when you get to do the telling. What is the point the story is trying to make? Consider this: a candidate named Jack could write a really nice story about a time he walked an elderly person across the street, but that story means very little if Jack doesnât also write at least a sentence or two on what that event meant to him, how it influenced his decision to apply to this school/scholarship, how it changed him, etc. A problem you c an run into with explanation is presenting the event in the story as though it were an epiphany. Most schools are not interested in your epiphany (And from that moment I knew I had to become aâ¦). Schools/scholarships are interested in your thoughtful decision-making. They are impressed with someone who demonstrates a long-standing commitment to the field/interest/skill/etc.What if youâre not interesting? Many applicants wonder how they can write a story if they donât feel like they are interesting. Itâs important to know that many people donât have an amazing story of overcoming adversity and succeeding against all odds. You donât have to write that story to have a great personal statement. Regardless of your experiences, youâve gotten to the point where you are applying for this school/scholarship. That alone is a success. How have you accomplished all that youâve already accomplished?HOW DO I SOUND?Know what youâre selling. Are you being yourself? A personal stat ement is more than a list of your accomplishments or a summary of your skills. It is a sample of your writing and a reflection of how you synthesize your experiences. Readers are less interested in what youâve done and more interested in how you think. Writers sometimes get intimidated by this and try to impress readers by changing their writing style or by using words they donât understand. These not only come across as insincere, but are also two examples of how writers can sometimes get distracted from the real purpose of a personal statement, which is to demonstrate the ability to candidly and succinctly convey how one understands his or her experiences.Have someone else read your statement and leave time to edit! Ask if, after reading your statement, the reader would want to admit you/give you the scholarship. Why or why not? Does the reader think you sound like every other person applying? Did you talk yourself up enough? Do you sound confident? When you get your readerâ s feedback, take the time to make the adjustments you see fit.
Gauss` Summation 1+2+3 Anecdote
Gauss` Summation 1+2+3 Anecdote Summation, adding up of sequences, sigma summation operator these terms send shivers down the spine of many algebra students. Surprisingly, these are also the tools of one of the most comical and math-morale boosting anecdotes in the history mathematics. The German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777 1855) was a genius even in childhood. He attended primary school in Brunswick (Braunschweig) in the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbütte in Germany. At the age of 10 the young Gauss was admitted to the algebra class of math teacher J.G. Büttner. To keep the bored and unruly schoolboy Carl Gauss busy for a good long time Büttner gave Gauss the following task: add-up the integers 1 to 100 in arithmetic progression. As Büttner turned back to teaching his class , the young Gauss placed his slate on the table, saying, There it is! Büttner looked back at him scornfully. To Büttner it must have been utterly impossible that a boy, even as talented as Gauss, could produce an answer within seconds. But when Büttner finally looked at the results on Gauss slate and it was he who probably felt cold shivers going down his spine: On Gauss slate was written the correct answer, 5050. No further calculation, such as 1+2+3+4+ was written, just the r ight answer: 5050. Büttner was utterly astonished and puzzled. He even called his assistant Martin Bartels. They asked the young boy how he possibly can come up with the right answer so quickly. As Gauss explained, he realized that pairwise addition of terms from opposite ends of the list yielded identical intermediate sums: 1 + 100 = 101, 2 + 99 = 101, 3 + 98 = 101, and so on, for a total sum of 50 à 101 = 5050. In more algebraic terms, Gauss had found the explicit solution to adding up the numerical sequence from 1 to 100. The explicit summation formula looks like this: By using mathematical induction it can be shown that the sum of all natural numbers n equals the sum of the first (1) and last integer (n) multiplied by half-of-the sequence elements (n/2) which yields the correct answer. It was totally amazing that this 10 year old boy came up with this method in his head within seconds. Impressed by Gausss intellectual abilities Büttner presented him to Duke of Brunswick, who sent him to what is today the Braunschweig University of Technology. The importance of the math genius Gauss to Germany is shown in part by the fact that Gausss portrait is shown on German Bundesbanks ten-Mark banknote issued from 1989 through 2001. The ten-Deutsche Mark banknote also shows prominent buildings in Göttingen (the town Gauss worked for many years), and a normal distribution curve â" one of Gauss famous mathematical discoveries. For those who have gained an appetite for algebra or are in need of help with math, check out our tutors. Gauss impressed his algebra teachers so much that he was awarded a scholarship. Perhaps this article inspires you to do the same! Editors footnote: Being a German and having lived at the time of issuance of the Gauss ten-mark bill I not only enjoyed the beautiful styled banknote but also its purchasing power. The Gauss banknote felt like real money, in sharp contrast to the ever depreciating value of todays ten euro banknote.

Patterns in zeros
Patterns in zeros The number zero has a lot of significance in mathematics. The number zero written in front of a number i.e. to the left of the number is as same as the number without the zeroes to the left. The same zeroes written to the right of the number makes a pattern to the number. Placing one zero to the right of the single number makes a tens place. Placing two zeroes to the right of a single number is a hundred place number. Placing three zeroes to the right of a single number is a thousand place number and so on. 10 Ten. 10000 Ten Thousand. 100 Hundred. 100000 Hundred Thousand. 1000 Thousand. 1000000 Million. Example 1: The teacher brought 10 boxes of pencils. There are 200 pencils in each box. How many total number of pencils are there? Solution: Number of boxes = 10. Number of pencils in a box = 200. The number of pencils in each box = 10 x 200 = 2,000. Hence, number of pencils = 2,000. Question: Multiple choice question (Pick the correct option.) What is the solution for the division: 18,000 9? a) 2000 b) 6000 c) 9000 d) None of these. Correct answer: option a. Explanation: In the division 18,000 is the dividend and 9 is the divisor. While dividing 18,000 9 = 18000/9 = (18 x 1000)/9 = 2 x 1000 = 2000. This gives the quotient that is 2000. Hence, the answer is 18,000 9 = 2,000.
Who was Helen Frankenthaler
Who was Helen Frankenthaler Beyond Surrealism: Helen Frankenthalerâs Innovative Style ChaptersWho Was Helen Frankenthaler?Style and InfluencesUnderstanding Abstract ExpressionismAnalysis: How Does Helen Measure up?There is no denying that Americans tend to march to the beat of their own drummer, even as they emulate their European ancestors.Well, not as far as the need to create art is concerned. In that respect, Americans, like their European ancestors, obey the very human drive to make beautiful things. To be sure, during the Italian Renaissance â" the time when painting and drawing evolved and eventually set the standards for European art in general, the Americas had been discovered but had not yet been colonised.By the end of the European Renaissance, in approximately 1700, the French, Spanish and English were battling each other (and the native inhabitants) for the greatest and choicest plots of land in the New World.Out of those conflicts arose a people uniquely opposed to mainstream ideas and conventions. Still today, Americans resist outside influence, invent ing and establishing their own means of accomplishing just about anything. It is that fierce independence that gave rise to a uniquely American style of painting, opening the doors for generations of artists to explore singular artistic expression.Well, that and an optimal sense of timing...Today, Superprof looks at American painter Helen Frankenthaler, the artist who established the soak-stain technique of painting. Helen was born and raised in New York City, later she associated with the art scene there Image by Free-Photos from PixabayBennington College in Vermont. How Helen developed an interest in art is not clear; she might have been inspired by her sister, Gloria â" a tapestry artist who worked closely with painters and other weavers. What is well-documented is her reaction to Jackson Pollockâs work. She was 22 years old when she saw his brand of art for the first time; she said she âwanted to live in the land he created and learn its language.âPollockâs unique style of applying paint to canvas did not call for brushes, even when he was painting representational art - say, a still life or a self-portrait. He preferred to use palette knives, trowels and sticks.Eventually, he graduated to âthe drip methodâ, a technique in which he placed a large, unprimed canvas on the floor of his studio and dripped or splashed paint over it.This method of abstract painting resonated with young H elen who, at that time, was making tentative inroads into the art world through her relationship with Clement Greenberg. As shown in this picture of Jackson Pollock, Helen would place large canvases on the floor of her studio A 'fair use' file from Wikipedia, photographer: Hans NamuthStyle and InfluencesInspired by Jackson Pollock, Helen placed her large, unprimed canvas on the floor of her studio. However, rather than using the heavier oils or house paints that Pollock employed, she diluted her oil paint with turpentine and, once she achieved a satisfactory consistency, she carefully poured it onto the canvas. Her dilution method had the effect of softening the colours and, because the canvas was not sealed with primer, it absorbed the tones and hues more readily â" effectively achieving a fusion of canvas and colour. The downside to this technique is that the oil in the paint caused the canvas to discolour; invariably, because of the unprotected canvases, her early works succumbed to rot. By the 1970s, Helen was no longer using the âsoak-stainâ method she had pioneered. She had graduated to thicker acrylic paints and bright, vivid colours reminiscent of Fauvist painters like Henri Matisse.Frida Kahlo, another painter who loved vivid colours, also found her style through trial and error.Understanding Abstract ExpressionismTiming was crucial for American painters to in taking centre-stage in western art.Helen grew up during the Great Depression, a time when a large proportion of the global population was starving whether they were artists or not.In Europe, shadows of the Great War and concerns of another brewing impacted every aspect of life and hit the artistic community especially hard; many European artists found refuge in the United States.Europeâs drawing inexorably closer to another devastating contest of military might caused a vacuum in the art world which opened the door for American artists to take the lead in bringing about the next big art movement. After WWII, America â" specifically, New York City supplanted Paris as the centre of progressive art.The new style th at first generation of artists â" Pollock, de Kooning and Gorky created a modernist art movement that incorporated elements of impressionism, fauvism and surrealism â" mostly surrealism.Art critics called this style abstract expressionism but that was not a new term or, necessarily, a new art movement; it was used to describe expressionism in Germany as far back as 1919.And then, art historian Alfred Barr used it in a 1929 art review to describe paintings by Wassily Kandinsky. What made it remarkable in the 1940s was the uniquely American spin of such works, which catapulted art produced in America to the epicentre of the western art world. The painting and sculpture produced in the United States since the turn of the century and especially after the Second World War had an anarchic feel to it; it embraced and represented the American spirit of rebellion and, some might say, nihilism. When thought of in those terms, Helen Frankenhalther (and other such artists) pouring paint on canva s â" as opposed to standing in front of an easel, palette in hand and making measured brushstrokes, fits right in.Action PaintingHelenâs âsoak-stainâ method of painting and Pollockâs drip technique are described by a term that does little to relate them to any specific American painting movement.Instead, it connects the physical interaction of the artist and her canvas; stopping just short of describing an assault on the pristine whiteness of it. One might envision an angry clash: paint flying, landing wherever it may...Some call action painting avant-garde while others disdain the movement entirely, labelling it simplistic and contrived. No matter what you might call it, these works continue to intrigue and awe whether they are on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York or on loan at the Tate or any other museum of art.Still, for as big a splash as this expressionist movement made in art circles, not every American artist conformed. Georgia OâKeeffe, a female artist famous for painting giant flowers, became known as the âmother of modernismâ Like her idol, Jackson Pollock, Helen did not use any paint brushes Image by DarkWorkX from PixabayAnalysis: How Does Helen Measure up?What inspired her to become an artist is not known, although there is an assertion in certain circles that she had always wanted to be an artist.Unlike Artemisia Gentileschi and countless other artists from Picasso to da Vinci, Helenâs father did not take her under his wing or especially prod her toward becoming an artist. Neither did her mother, as far as anyone can tell.Equally unlike Mary Cassatt, who defied her father and bore the scorn of society at large and the art world in particular for having the temerity to want to paint; a woman who, for that craving, gave up marriage, children and financial security â" all requisites for the females of her day, all because she felt she must paint or die...Helen, by all accounts, made no such sacrifices and, while she lacked the mentoring of her father â" only because he was not an artist himself, she did enjoy the guidance of several big names in the art world such as Ruffino Tamayo and Paul Feeley. She also benefitted from the wisdom of art critic Clement Greenberg, with whom she had a long-term relationship. He was much older than she was and had cultivated deep ties within art circles by the time they met; it was he who ensured the inclusion of her work in the 1964 exhibition of Post-Painterly Abstraction.Mary Cassatt would sooner have died than submit to the âsponsorshipâ of a male to ensure her work would be seen!Nevertheless, Helen made a name for herself and made a living from art. She experimented with more than one medium and mastered more than one form of artistic expression. She pioneered novel uses of paint and, for a while, created an abstract world that invited people to plunge in head-first and try to understand her particular brand of expressionism.Even at the end, she wouldnât give in to convention. She never used paintbrushes to depict ordinary subjects: st ill lifes and portraiture, landscape painting, genre or even historical/religious works.Helen was unique in the field of visual arts; even Jackson Pollock didnât take the concept of dribbling paint on large canvases to the depth that she did.If only for her innovation â" if not for the visual treats she gave the world, Helen has earned her place in art history; her work ensures her inclusion in the pantheon of great women who painted.
